Portal

share-lod_sito_3

SHARE LOD is a technology platform to browse library catalogues organised according to the data model BIBFRAME Linked Data.

The portal, a single point of access to the entirety of the integrated resources (books, documents, etc.), saves time and refines the search experience modes, returning results enriched by sources outside the catalogues.

BIBFRAME (Bibliographic framework)

A data model that, implementing the changes currently underway in terms of new methods for sharing data, documents and digital resources between cultural spaces that use different rules and standards, executes the transition from MARC format to Linked Open Data and the Semantic Web.

Based on the entity-relationship concept of FRBR and RDA, it creates bibliographic structures in linked open data, thus bringing the catalogue data into the Semantic Web and significantly enriching the information placed at users’ service.

Architecture

SHARE LOD through intuitive interfaces for searching for information on different levels:

  • Person/Work – the data set relating to the Person and his Works, in RDF, is saved in no SPARQL endpoint and made available through specific search and presentation functions.
  • Instances (publications) – the bibliographic data is indexed in a search engine capable of producing – using bands – different data aggregations (publication date, language, publisher, edition etc.), providing a wide range of search and navigation functions. These are also still available in RDF, as linked data.
  • Item – access to data related to the copies and their availability from local OPACs or other systems in use within each entity.
