The National Central Library of Florence (BNCF), one of the most important libraries in Italy and Europe, is the first national library to use FOLIO platform, placing itself in a global level context of innovation.
Since August 2021 – after migration of more than 200,000 users and about 3 million publications – the services (circulation, user management and some pre-cataloguing operations) are managed with FOLIO and brand new front-end systems.
All applications, in line with the philosophy of FOLIO, are open source.
The implementation – which includes a new institutional website, the renewal of the OPAC and the FOLIO hosting service – owes its success to the fruitful collaboration between @CULT, which coordinated the entire project, EBSCO and the staff of BNCF.
“The gamble of an open source project of this magnitude is to seize in FOLIO the opportunity to become part of a larger and more widespread community made up of librarians, developers and vendors“
(Tiziana Possemato, COO of @CULT)
