Share Family – Linked Data Environment

Connecting libraries, archives and museums and their data

The growing interest in projects based on LOD Platform technology, for the transition from traditional cataloging environments to innovative models based on linked data, has led to an increase of initiatives.

Starting from SHARE Catalogue and SHARE-VDE, the first two projects, the Share Family is born!

A set of project aims to explore and embrace the future of library catalogues, creating effective tools and environments that facilitate the cataloguing, exposition and discovery of bibliographic records in linked data.

The success of the SHARE Family is not only the innovative technologies but the collaboration between project partners and the community of libraries, archives and museums.

The real revolution is that tools and services are not driven “by the interests of those who develop them” but “by the needs of those who use them”, through the active participation of an international group of leading national libraries, research libraries and bibliographic agencies worldwide.

The major results of this cooperation are:

  • Easy adoption: “Family” indicates a willingness to grow and improve together, integrating reflections and requests from expert users at every stage of development; this gives the products an exceptional added value: “familiarity”
  • Better quality of services: designed both to help organizations offer a new, richer and more interconnected world of information, and to help end users find their way around in it
