OLISuite AND INNOVATIVE RDA STANDARD

OLISuite is the LMS developed by @CULT to manage the entire workflow of libraries and archives: from the selection of material, cataloguing and distribution to loaning and web publishing.

Particularly attentive to the evolution of the cataloguing world and referring to the now famous slogan “the library outside of itself”, which refers to the concept of seeking potential users wherever they are located (above all on the web), OLISuite’s cataloguing form opens into the new RDA (Resource Description and Access) standard.

It is an innovative international code for the description of and access to resources, which becomes a tool for the entire bibliographic universe and the new digital environment, where resources are managed by a large and diverse community of publishers, subjects that control and hold the rights to distribution and use, libraries and distributors and institutions (libraries, archives, museums, producers of databases and repositories, bibliographic agencies) that collect, preserve and make such resources accessible.

Anchored in the FRBR and FRAD conceptual models and the ICP, International Cataloguing Principles, RDA takes from these an approach to the analysis of these entities / relationships, terminology, attention to the work rather than to the specific publication (and hence the size or informational message itself, wherever and however it is stored or expressed) and the absolute centrality of user interest, in whose name each cataloguing decision is made.

To the objectives to find, identify, select and obtain, borrowed from FRBR and FRAD models, RDA  adds the aim to browse data and metadata in the large bibliographic universe in a manner widely prevalent among web users.

This, along with other specific elements of the new standard, make it an indispensable tool to ensure that that which is produced by libraries and all cultural and memory institutions becomes part of the web and not just on the web!
